"I'd say if you live in the United States of America and you vote for George Bush, you've lost your mind."
Of course - that would include his own native North Carolina. The words are unnecessarily harsh. You want to attack, but generally, you want to attack the opposition, not those who may for the moment be thinking they might vote for the opposition. Voter insult is not a tactic known for its effectiveness at the polls.
This is not even a tactic that would work in front of a jury - e.g. if you don't find for my client, you're crazy - who would that appeal to? I'm not sure where Edwards got it. Unless, of course, the internals for the Kerry campaign aren't all that rosy after the first debate, and a mad dash to paint Bush as crazy is the only play they've got left.
I'll tell you now - George W. Bush ain't Howard Dean, and George W. Bush ain't Wesley Clark. I think we're all crazied out for this campaign cycle.
