Jesse Jackson, long marginalized by independent thinking persons, has come through with another round of race-baiting quips for the ages, and what appears to be a complete lack of understanding of space and time. For instance,

"November 2, the power is in your hands, hands that once picked cotton," Jackson said.

Of course, the last known living former slave died, allegedly, in 1979 at the age of 137 (I'm not sure I believe it either - seems a little old to me). But the point is clear enough - there have been no hands alive that had picked cotton in servitude for 25 years, probably longer. If the good reverend is speaking to the dead, so be it, for we know they tend to vote Democratic in droves, and may need a pep talk. But to make such a statement to a living church congregation is demeaning. Does anyone buy that their hands picked cotton? Can any American today with a straight face make an analogy to slavery? Such a statement is not only wrong, but demeans the forced sacrifice slaves made and the real evils of slavery. No one in America today is even close to that existence, and should be ashamed for condoning anyone who says so.
