10/06/2004 08:05:49 PM|||Nathan Moore|||Iran proudly announces on an almost-weekly basis that the Mullah state is moving closer and closer to possessing nuclear weapon fuel.
John Kerry wants to get tough on Iran - he wants to impose even more . . . sanctions. In fact, he even wants to provide them with enriched nuclear fuel, under scouts honor that they would play nice with it. Just ask the murdered and tortured whether promises from totalitarian regimes offer real comfort and reassurance.
There are two distinct possibilities - John Kerry is either naive, or sinister.
I do not believe he is sinister.
Regardless of how much credit one wishes to grant John Kerry's character, he is, without reservation, wrong on Iran, and is shortsighted on Iraq. A stable, democratic government in Iraq, and a functioning democracy in Afghanistan, will squeeze Iran from two sides. The borders are porous, and ideas and goods will travel over them. This coupled with the pressure from its own people within will result in the collapse of the theocracy.
But the polls don't tell Kerry that - and they never will. Leadership and vision are two things the modern Democratic Party completely lacks, and this candidate in particular. I seriously doubt whether he can focus on a policy more than a week at a time. Someone of that little conviction has no business near the Oval Office.
