Here's one analysis about how the Red Sox utter humiliation of the New York Yankees will affect the election.

I have an alternate theory. Sports fans, as a rule, are Republicans (as a rule - there will be outliers). I make this statement largely from anecdotal evidence, and the advent of some advocacy groups making fun of certain celebrated liberals who act like they like sports. I have not seen a poll where sports fans are asked about political persuasion. However, even in Boston, every time I've been to Fenway, there has been ample play of country music, which is considered the bane of existence for sophisticated northeastern liberalites' eardrums. Football games are always honoring the military, anywhere you go. As are hockey games. Here,in an admittedly more conservative location, Bush / Cheney people could not hand out enough stickers to wear to those attending home Titan games. In short, sports celebrate and embrace competition. Most liberals do not and are downright suspicious of it in an unregulated form. Hence, the rub.

First, we know that John Kerry is not a true Red Sox fan. Manny Ortiz, anyone? No one who follows the Red Sox would make that mistake.

Here's the theory, based on the above sketchy reasoning - that Red Sox fans will be in such a good mood from the Red Sox victories, whether they win the World Series or not, that they will want to do something with their positive energy, and turn out in record numbers, pushing Massachusetts into swing state status with days left in the campaign. Kerry either loses the Midwest to save Massachusetts, or suffers Al Gore-like embarrassment, losing his home state and the election, while maybe taking Ohio (well, maybe taking Ohio if he continues to pretend he knows how to hunt animals other than fox and pheasant).

Oh, and on that - apparently the NRA has an ad running already in newspapers regarding the senators faux hunting / love of guns pitch. I especially like the use of a French Poodle with a Kerry sweater.
